Small group, Diapers, and Recipes to share

So I have been meaning to write about these three topics, so I thought I would slam them into one post.

Small Group
Last Thursday we thought we were ready to go out and attend our weekly bible study. We figure we had three weeks under our belt and taking Jasmine would be a piece a cake. I fed Jazzy and then we arrived at our friends house at 7:30 p.m. Everything was great. Jazzy was sleeping so peacefully in her car seat. Then her eyes were wide open. Jeremy took her out of the car seat and proceeded to show off his adorable daughter to everyone there. Well she was fine for a bit and then started wailing. She wound up crying for most of the night because she was going through a growth spurt. I think we might take a few more weeks off. Lesson learned: let sleeping babies lie.

Diaper Date Fiasco
We got a great deal on diapers last night at Kroger: $8.50 for 40 newborn Pampers swaddlers. We got 3 packages. Since we were buying the diapers we also got $5.00 off any non Proctor and Gamble goods. I bought some fancy blueberry pomegranite juice and Jeremy bought a 4 pack of Ginseng cola. It also doubled as a mini date night because Jeremy's parents were at our house watching Jazzy for us. We planned on going out for coffee at this local coffee shop around the corner (Didi's Cafe next to the Bake Shoppe). Well it was the wrong night to go there. We went to the counter to order and no one was there for a few minutes. Then the lady (Didi) took my order and started making it. When she was half finished making my latte, she went into the back and started eating bread. She said she was emotional that night, and it showed. I sat down and waited and Jeremy watched her eat bread until he decided that it was a lost cause and we left empty handed. We wound up going to the Starbucks at Kroger. Thus we drank our coffee and checked out the diaper deal.

Where do y'all buy your cheap diapers from? Post a comment and let me know.

Recipes
On the sidebar to the right I have listed links to various categories of recipes. Currently I have posted only my favorite main dish recipes. I will post the others soon. Please post your favorite recipes as a comment. To me cooking has nothing to do with talent, but knowing the right recipe. Let's help each other build a better meal!

Jeremy actually helped me write this while I was nursing so give him a small round of applause. (He obviously typed that line).

  1. glad you're out and about and adjusting to parenthood. :)

seems like the better deal on diapers comes in the larger boxes from walmart (or sams, depending on which brand you like). i LOVED the swaddlers (although only used them for alex, because they weren't available before), but after that moved to the store brand and was (and am) very happy with them. one of my friends used the name-brand for overnight. anyway. seems that grocery & drug stores will be pricier, but maybe coupons make the deal.

man, it's all getting so fuzzy...weigh the advice of moms with fewer & younger more heavily than mine. :)

sorry, no help on recipes...i'm quite the fan of the ready-to-go pizza crusts (found near the pasta), keep sauce and toppings handy and the kids personalize their meal (and are more likely to eat it). the frozen steam-in-their-own-bag veggies are also good to add to the meal.

oh, and for the record, sonic's new lattes are pretty yummy--the drive up ended up being a good date when kids slept well in their carseat and we just needed a change of venue... :)

see you soon, hopefully....we have MOPS this week......

  2. Kevin and I went on a "date" to Kroger when Caroline was very young and my MIL was babysitting. I think that was our first time away from her together.

    Diapers...
I liked the Swaddlers from size newborn to size 2. Then I got into Huggies (red/white package). NOT Huggies Supreme (marroon package)- Becky and I both did not like Huggies Supreme... lots of leaks for some odd reason. You can sign up on the diaper websites so that you get extra coupons in the mail. I keep an eye in the CVS, Walgreens, Target, and Kroger add for sales and then stock up (you can check them online if you don't get the Sunday paper). Target actually has pretty good regular prices b/c they know you'll buy lots of other stuff when you are there getting the diapers. Babies R Us has coupons in their ad sometimes too. I only buy them in boxes these days, and if I'm not sure how much longer she'll be in a certain size, I'll stock up on the next size.

PS. I only use Huggies wipes too. I think I'm just to scared to branch out.

  3. We buy the biggest box of diapers that Pampers makes. You can get them at Babies R Us for a good price. I use Pampers because they were rated the best by Consumer Reports. I buy them in bulk because it's such a deal!

  4. After three kids (two of which are still in diapers) and trying every single type of diaper in the world, we buy the cheapest diapers. We buy Parents Choice brand from Walmart & the Target brand. You get a ginormous box for less than $15, and they are amazing. Even though they are considered "generic" they really work. And let's be honest--every diaper will leak, there are no guarantees. I would rather buy these diapers and save my money for more important things. I mean, they just pee and poo on them anyway and end up in a landfill somewhere. Save your money and don't buy brand name!
