First a little language lesson -- Amachi means Grandma in Malayalam (the local language in India).
So Friday my father-in-law, Bruce, kindly offered to go to the airport to pick up my mom from the airport. She was set to arrive at 10:12 a.m on March 28th. from India. Bruce calls me and informs me that my mom is no where to be seen. I begin to panic. I call Delta airlines and they tell me that due to privacy laws, I cannot receive any info on whether my mom was on the plane or not. The lady begins to realize my desperation and asks if I have the confirmation number (thankfully I had it) and says she can disclose the info to me with that number. She tells me that my mom did not board the plane in Dubai. Okay my mom went from India to Dubai to Atlanta to Houston. She was to switch planes at each place. She did not make it to Dubai???? The lady said she was a no show. At this point I am sweating bullets and freaking out. I thought -- what have I done??? I then call Emirates airlines which is the carrier for the flight from India to Dubai. They say that she is fine and in a hotel. Apparently her flight was so delayed coming from India that she missed her connecting flight to Atlanta. So now that I know she is fine, I proceed to be mad since she didn't call me. I mean who wouldn't call to let their loved ones know that they missed their flight and am in a hotel awaiting the next flight. Long story short, she finally was picked up at 10:30 a.m. on March 29th . . . yes a whole 24 hours later.
So this was my mom's journey in a nutshell . . .
4 hour cab ride from hometown to airport in India +
18 hour and 15 minutes delay to leave India (mechanical problems with plane) +
4 hour flight to Dubai +
19.5 hour layover in Dubai (missed flight to Atlanta and had to wait for the next one) +
16 hour flight from Dubai to Atlanta +
2 hour layover in Atlanta +
2 hour flight from Atlanta to Houston
= way too long of a journey!!! what a mess!

Last night Jeremy and I talked and decided that we should try putting little girl in the nursery at church during Sunday school class. So today we got to church a little early and filled out the information to drop her off. We then decided that since she was asleep in her carseat we would drop her off for both the main service and Sunday school afterwards. This was a last minute decision so me and Jeremy were antsy to say the least. We are thinking that Jasmine will go World War III on those poor nursery volunteers. At 10:30 a.m. I go in to get Jasmine and feed her. The sweet lady told us what a good girl she was. I couldn't believe it. I proceed to feed her and then brought her back to the sweet lady. I go to Sunday school and afterwards Jeremy goes to pick her up. He comes back. Little girl is in an entirely different outfit -- it could have been for two reasons . . . . blowout or spit-up, fortunately for them it was just spit-up this time. :)
Hope you have a wonderful week!
congratulations on dropping her off and overcoming the parental seperation anxiety. :)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad she did well at the nursery !!! Kyndall was like 5 months before I took her !! So you are doing WAY better than we did.
ReplyDeletePraise the Lord your mom is safe and home. I know you were freaking OUT when she was no where to be found.
It is sooo hard to leave them for the first time. Here is some frequent-nursery-worker-insider info: all we wanna do is snuggle the punkins. If your punkin likes to be snuggled-she'll have a wonderful time, and so will they! =)
ReplyDeleteLove you all,
Rhonda
I'm so glad that your mom made it safe and sound! I, too, would have been INCREDIBLY WORRIED!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy her and love on her! I sure miss my mama!
I'm so happy your mom is safe and sound. Hopefully she had a good visit. It's amazing to me how much the Lord has done for her recovery. Who would have thought she could have traveled so far alone?
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, I have more trepidation about leaving Carson in the nursery now than I ever had when he was itty bitty. Those CBC nursery folks are wonderful and I had such confidence in them. My problem now is Carson won't let ME out of his sight :-(
