On July 27th, we hit the road. We didn't drive very far, but it was like we were a world away from the busyness of life at home. Jeremy thought it would be a good idea for us to get away for a few days before his new job started. So we had lunch on the way at Chappell Hill Sausage Company restaurant. It is a tiny joint, but the sausage was yummy! After this we drove around to Washington on the Brazos to waste time before check-in. We then got to our B&B and settled the kids in for a nap followed by some pool time. We then ate some sandwiches, put Seth to sleep in a pack-n-play placed in the bathroom and stayed up to watch a Thomas the Train movie with Jasmine. We thought it would be fun to keep Jasmine up to watch the movie and eat popcorn with M&M's, but it ended up biting us in the rear the next day.
Jasmine was blitzed due to lack of sleep, so she was so disobedient and lots of discipline occurred. Boo! On a brighter note, we did go to the Blue Bell Tour, had yummy lunch at Southern Flyer Diner, and then Jasmine skipped her nap . . . you ask why? I think she was so tired from staying up the night before that she couldn't fall asleep at nap time. Yeah it was awful! We then decided to go for a ride and found a cute park to play in plus as a bonus we saw a real train go by and Jasmine was super pumped about it . . . you know she is into Thomas the Train in a major way! After that we went back to the B&B, had dinner, and then put both kiddos to bed.
I must say that there were a few things we learned as first time travelers with children. 1.) Keep bedtimes and naptimes if at all possible. If you decide to keep the kiddos up late, do it the last night so they can sleep on the way home. 2.) Bring winter pajamas for your children. You never know how cold your room will be. Seth was in a pack-n-play in the bathroom and it was super cold. Fortunately I had packed warmer clothes for him.
Doesn't my cuddle bunny look cute? Here was just so cute sitting on our bed that I couldn't resist snapping a pic!

LOVE the Blue Bell factory! We have one in Broken Arrow (Tulsa area), so I'm hoping one of these days we'll make the long drive to visit.
ReplyDeleteAnd it sounds like things went great for a trip with an eight month old! We never even attempted a vacation until Emma was eighteen months old. Seriously! :)
