One fall made things a little too real for me

Yesterday we went over to a friend's house for dinner and games. We got there a bit early, so I went upstairs to feed Jazzy. After I was done I was walking down the stairs with baby in hand and chatting up a storm to those below. The next thing I know I have tripped, fallen on my back side and am sliding down a few steps with baby in my arms. Fortunately I held her tight and after the ordeal she started crying, but thankfully nothing happened to her. The Lord kept her safe. My back side was not saved though. I banged it up pretty good and can't lean back while sitting. Whoo hoo!

I was a bit shook up after the fall. I was on the verge of crying when I realized Jazzy could have been injured or even killed in a split second. Wow. I realized how much I love her and how fragile she is. She is just a little girl. I guess I will feel this way forever. Lucky for me--the Lord is protecting her so all I have to do is remember that each day.

On a lighter note--I had a great time with friends at dinner and boy was it yummy. I must say that I am a light weight though. We got home at 11:30 p.m. and I was wooped. The rest of the gang was just getting wound up when we left. Oh well. I must be honest with myself and accept that I just can't hack it anymore . . . I am not a night owl, but come over at 5 a.m. and I am ready to party!!

I made an appetizer last night that our friends the Foley's make - It is a warm and yummy dip. I put the recipe below and also added it to my appetizer link (see right sidebar).

Foley's dip
8 oz. of cream cheese, softened a bit
1 can of black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can of Rotel, drained
Shredded cheese -- We used colby jack

Get a pie plate (glass ones work best) and spread the cream cheese on the bottom. Throw the beans on, then the Rotel and then cover with a layer of shredded cheese. Bake at 350 degrees until the dip is bubbly and melted. Serve with tortilla chips. Super easy and super yum!

  1. Oh, I did exactly the same thing when Caroline was 3 months old. My tail bone was already injured from childbirth, so BOY did it hurt! (Note: sitting on my boppy for a few weeks really helped)

Your recipe sounds great. I'll have to try it sometime. I'm always up for chips and dip.

  2. sophia was less than a year old when i fell down our stairs (she had just started crawling)...she was in my arms and i slipped and somehow even flipped...i ended up with my feet tangled in the curtain that's at the bottom of the stairs (right before it turns for the last two steps), with my feet pointed toward the top of the stairs and my head up against the wall (at the bottom of the "L"). i think as i was falling forward, i twisted so i'd sheild her from the banister and hit my shoulder in the process. once it was all over, i tried putting her down so she'd crawl away and i could straighten up---we were home alone and both scared to tears.

the protective instinct is pretty strong, huh? it's God-given to keep her safe.
