Microwave magic in the blood???

Within a few months after buying our house, the long handle to our microwave partially broke off (it was still hanging on to the top). We are cheap folks and did not want to throw away $80 on a new plastic handle that would probably break off, so we left it as such. Well sometime in 2008 the entire handle broke off, so we were left with these two nubs to pull on with pliers while we figured out the best solution. Spend $80 for a handle that would probably break again or get a new microwave which is not too cheap since it has to have a vent and light on it. We scoured the internet and was about to purchase a dumb handle when we came across a post that said that someone put cabinet handles on it. I had no idea what they meant, but a light bulb went off in my handy hubby's mind and ta da . . . we have knobs that work and won't break off . . . it costs us about $4 total. Whoo hoo! So this was fixed in Oct/Nov 2008.
Our fancy new knobs

For Thanksgiving, we went to Tennesee to see Jeremy's grandfather and for Thanksgiving day we went to Jeremy's cousin's home, Lynn and Kay. This is what I observed . . . see the exact same microwave . . . see the knob. Yes, this brain power runs in the family folks! :)
The cousins microwave with a trusty knob!

  1. This cracked me up...especially when I saw Jeremy's cousin's microwave too! What an inventive idea. I'm like you...I'd rather keep the $80 in my pocket.
