So I thought I would follow up on my
previous post about teaching Jasmine at home . . . since the Feb 9th post we have had a theme for the week (loosely following the preparatory curriculum at
http://www.letteroftheweek.com/Preparatory.html). The curriculum has a theme, vocabulary word, shape/color, number, letter and nursery rhyme. For me, I have only managed to maintain a theme for the week. It is nice to have something to focus on. Our county library is awesome and allows me to search for books on line and have them pulled for me. All I do is take both kiddos to the library, pick up the new books for the week (they are held under my last name), Jazzy picks some new DVDs and plays with a few puzzles, and then we may read a book or two . . . we then leave while the leaving is good. We have read about cows, the jungle, kittens, beach/vacation, road trip, plants/seeds and now about sharing/being kind. She LOVES going to the library and I LOVE reading new books each week. She learned the Little Miss Muffet nursery rhyme (she skips one line consistently and it is so cute) in February and also Ephesians 6:1. We sing a little song that Jeremy made up and that I commissioned "J-A-S-M-I-N-E that's how you spell Jasmine's name for me". It is a simple little ditty that Jasmine now knows. We have done some hands on experiments like freezing water, allowing ice to melt and boiling water. We have also had a failed attempt at growing pinto beans . . . we will be trying that again soon. She loves to do new thing and it keeps things fresh at home for not only her, but me. :)

I did Letter of the Week with Brooke too. I liked it! Thanks for sharing the links. There are a couple I hadn't seem before.
ReplyDeleteWith the pinto beans - don't put them in a ziploc. Just keep the paper towel very wet laying on a tray - you'll have to water it probably every day. The plastic bag molds seeds and seedlings quickly. I have killed a number of baby plants that way.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Marianne! It sounds like you guys are having so much fun!!
